The intercom doesn't ring

Guests are at the door, but the handset or monitor in your flat stays silent. The cause is either the device in your flat or the building's entrance panel — a minute is enough to check.

01Just your flat, or everyone?

Ask the neighbours.

  • Only yours silent — it's your handset, monitor or their line.
  • Nobody's ringing — it's the entrance panel or its power.

02If it's just you: the handset or the monitor

Classic handset: check it's seated properly on the base and the volume slider isn't at minimum.

Touchscreen video monitor: check the screen is on and that "Do not disturb" or mute hasn't been switched on by accident — on many monitors it's a single button, easy to brush.

If the door opens from the button but there's no ring — it's the device or the line, you need a technician.

03If it's everyone

Tell your housing association or property manager: the entrance panel and its power are the building's shared responsibility.

04After a storm or a power cut

A surge may have hit the panel or the intercom's power supply.

If the intercom didn't come back with the power — you need a specialist.

If there's still no ring

Tell us: is one flat silent or the whole stairwell — we'll come and bring the ring back.
